NOVEMBER 23, 2013

Release Date: October 01, 2013

SANTA MONICA, CA—The GRACIE gift shop at the Santa Monica Museum of Art (SMMoA) presents Sleeping with SMMoA, a line of pajamas featuring original designs by acclaimed contemporary artists Joyce Pensato, Raymond Pettibon, and Yutaka Sone with Benjamin Weissman. This spirited sleepwear collection was born out of a collaboration between the three artists, SMMoA’s Retail Curator Amy Coane, and Renee Claire Bertrand of BedHead Pajamas.

The Sleeping with SMMoA collection is produced here in Los Angeles out of 100% Egyptian cotton. The pajamas will be available beginning November 23, just in time for the holiday season, at GRACIE and smmoa.org/shop/gracie. To pre-order, contact Adrienne Parker at (310) 586-6488 or adrienne.parker@smmoa.org. As part of a limited run, the pajamas retail for $138, nightshirts for $110, and boxers for $30.

Joyce Pensato (b. 1941) is a New York-based painter. Her work reflects her training in abstract expressionism while also exploring the darker side of Mickey Mouse, Daisy Duck, and other icons of American pop culture. Her exhibition, Joyce Pensato: I KILLED KENNY, was on view at SMMoA from June through September 2013.

Raymond Pettibon (b. 1957) is an acclaimed contemporary artist known for his text and ink-riddled works on paper and his album covers for the likes of Black Flag and Sonic Youth. His work was featured in The Book Show: Raymond Pettibon 1978-2001 at SMMoA in 2001.

Yutaka Sone (b. 1965) is a Japanese-American artist whose work in a wide range of media is held together by a tension between reality and the sublime. His collaborative work with Los Angeles artist and writer Benjamin Weissman is the focus of Snow, opening November 2013 at SMMoA. Benjamin Weissman is a Los Angeles-based writer, visual artist, and teacher who studied at California Institute of the Arts. He has lectured on and written extensively about art, books, music, skiing, and pornography for a variety of institutions and publications.
